Individual
excellence and a good team spirit are the overriding aims at Queen
Ethelburga's and we encourage every pupil to take full advantage
of our range of academic, artistic and sporting activities.
A
comprehensive choice of individual and team sports enables pupils
to find their own preferences and develop the relevant skills.
The school has a marvellous Equestrian Centre and offers lessons
to full British Horse Society standard from beginners to fully
competitive levels, using pupils' own horses and those provided
by the school. We excel at many sports and we play host to national
championships. We also have an excellent heated indoor leisure
swimming pool.
Our
large sports-hall can provide gym, badminton, and also a large
range of sporting activities. Our facilities are superb. We also
have five floodlit, all-weather tennis courts, two floodlit, all
weather sports courts, twenty floodlit rounders/cricket practice
nets, a floodlit all-weather running track, a floodlit international
sized sports football pitch, floodlit hockey pitch, two floodlit
high jump areas and three floodlit, all weather volleyball courts.
Off-campus
we encourage an interest in outdoor activities and run a special
course each summer term for members of the Third and Lower Fourth
forms, in which rock-climbing, canoeing, abseiling and caving
are amongst the highlights. Weekend expeditions provide training
for the Duke of Edinburgh's Award and we run ski-ing trips to
Austria and France.
We
encourage every pupil to recognise the importance of physical
exercise and good diet in maintaining a fit and healthy lifestyle.
