What planning applications are you putting in?

We are submitting an application for a fountain, an internal short wall, some underground gas tanks, an underground rain water attenuation system, some small stages children use for drama in the grounds, some additional netball courts, a sports changing room and sports equipment store. To ensure the current usage of buildings is understood, and to thus regularise them, we are submitting some applications for buildings that already exist and have done so for a number of years - this covers our Medical Centre for staff and pupils, some bedrooms built in an internal courtyard over a conservatory, our underground refectory and assembly area, and some boarding bedrooms.

planningYou may recall we had a fire which virtually destroyed an extension to the Hall we built some 30 years ago. The original extension was built at a time when money was scare and was not built to a high standard. Following the fire the extension was re-built but to a far better quality. This building requires planning permission and listed building approval. Due to the consistent improvement in the number of local staff employed, and particularly the number of local parents now choosing us to educate their children, we need to regularise the permission for an additional car park and to get approval for a Coach park for the buses that bring children to/from school. This also thus requires the creation of an internal roadway on the Estate so vehicles can come and go without needing to go anywhere near local villages. We are desperately short of simple storage for things such as examination desks, chairs, for our grounds men and woman to have somewhere to go for their meals, to repair our many estate vehicles and equipment - so we are putting in an application for a long thin building at the far end of the Estate away from where all the children go.

We have always wanted to be able to accept a wide range of ability children. We do not want to be simply known for our outstanding academic success in things such as GCSE’s and A-Levels. To this end we are, from this September, introducing a range of vocational courses. Vocational courses are ideally suited to children who find the usual range of academic examinations the wrong route to career success and life fulfilment.

planningThe large building that will house much of these vocational facilities is called the Genesis Centre. This building was originally given planning permission but the usage of the building is now different. The finished building will be slightly longer and wider than that originally envisaged but no taller. Thus to regularise this we are submitting an application to cover these changes. Due to the changes, our Equestrian Centre has had to be relocated and this too will need an application. In addition the College wishes to be able to accept a small number of disabled children and therefore we are submitting an application for a small building designed to cater specifically for their needs. We wish to ensure all our children understand the countryside and the wildlife therein. To enable us to do this we wish to create a small single storey area for "Animal Care" - and we are submitting an application for this.

Anyone who has ever visited the Estate knows we build to a very high quality and that our grounds are kept in immaculate condition. The whole Estate is indeed really quite impressive and beautiful. This booklet explains what we do, why we do it and what we do to ensure we are eco-friendly. Our Estate usage, even with these applications is about half intense as the campuses of other local day and boarding schools. We hope our open and transparent approach will mean the local community will be able to proud of what is happening in their community.
