We have our own FSA regulated, fully fledged Insurance Underwriting company, we also have firms which you would understand as Insurance Brokerage firms. In total we insure over 200,000 people. We are the largest insurers of leisure horses in the UK. In fact we insure more leisure horses than all the other insurers put together. We are the fourth biggest insurer of Cats and Dogs. We are the biggest insurer of Musical Instruments. We also insure Boats and many other specialised categories of things. Our call centre, within our insurance Company, takes up to 7500 incoming calls a day which explains why the local community has had the benefit of many local telephone exchange upgrades by BT.

We work hard, much of our processing is done by powerful computers. Our insurance organisation has been on the Estate for almost 30 years. You probably didn’t even know it was there it is so low key. However due to our dedicated staff over the years we have grown from just 8 staff over 30 years ago to 130 staff now. Our insurance organisation is, and has always been, very profitable. It is the profits from this organisation which enables our Charities to give so much away each year. It has also meant our College has been able to grow and prosper.
