We want to install a proper, effective and highly eco-friendly, water retention, underground installation. This alone we estimate will require a capital budget of £500K. We put a planning application in for this. This installation means we can hold back water due to our use of hard surfaces such that we only let water leave the estate at a rate no bigger than was the case before the College was even established on the Estate!
We are currently investigating the ability to install in-ground heat recovery pipes under the construction of the new proposed perimeter internal roadway. Due to its length even this part of our Estate could be capable of providing substantial free, renewable energy.
We have invested in providing the highest quality and most efficient kitchens in the UK. Our kitchen in the Undercroft won a prestigious national Award, beating Buckingham Palace (!) for its innovation design, its quality and its efficiency. We have already managed to reduce our waste food element within our catering unit to half that normally expected.
As a school we are probably one of the few that had not only embraced the concept of the Jamie Oliver healthy eating, before Jamie Oliver even had thought of it, but also by use of professional nutritionists and pupil regular surveys, manage to produce exceptionally healthy food that children actually enjoy eating!
Our class rooms are designed to be energy efficient and conducive to make learning more enjoyable and more effective - part of why the school ethos and academic results are so exceptional.
So as we grow we do so on the basis of modern, purpose designed facilities where every possible attention to detail has been investigated and the appropriate investment made to ensure all that can be done to minimise the impact on the environment is minimised. All this is possible because we have the "where with all" to do it. And the "where with all" has been earned by exceptionally well run organisations that have been taught never to rest on their laurels.
Compared to probably every other independent school in the UK, we are ahead of the game in efficiency, minimisation of environmental impact, the intelligent and effective use of modern technology and the ability to produce results that make a considerable positive impact on the lives and future prospects of those that we educate. We have a happy and loyal work force who are intensely proud of the Estate they work on. We plan, we invest and we build our facilities and our organisations on the basis of the long term and by that we mean longer than the next 100 years.
There are few, if any, organisations within our area who have for every year of the last 30 years, produced year on year, financial results where the year just gone was better than the year previously. We have done this in good times and still achieved this in recessions.
We hope after having read this you too will realise we are an Estate and College to be proud of and thus to actively support. Over the last 30 years our Estate has proved itself, time and time again, to be very good for the local economy and the local people who live and work within it.
