 It
is now widely recognised that some children have specific learning
difficulties,
or dyslexia, which can cast a shadow over their academic potential;
it is equally clear that many extremely bright students may fail
to achieve their full potential if such difficulties are not recognised
and dealt with.
QE has particular
expertise in this area, with teaching staff who are well qualified
to identify such difficulties and help children to cope with them.
Pupils benefit
from the individual attention; therefore those who have any problems
in keeping pace with their peers can be quickly spotted and provided
with structured help by highly qualified teaching specialists.
It is of
equal importance to identify pupils who are academic high-fliers
and to tailor their school programme accordingly, in order that
they continue to remain intellectually stimulated. This will avoid
their 'coasting' through a vital phase of their education.
For example, our Oxbridge entrance successes are but
one proof of our aim to develop academic strengths to the utmost.
Pupils with specific learning difficulties benefit from
working with the specialist teaching staff; they also gain enormously
in confidence from subjects such as drama and public speaking, and
from the support and friendship of their fellow students.
Many famous people are dyslexic: Albert Einstein, Richard
Branson, Gary Rhodes, Whoopi Goldberg, Cher, Joanna Lumley, Tom
Cruise, Anthea Turner. |
