Combined Cadet Force ~ leadership and responsibility
The College has its own Combined Cadet Force - CCF. The Combined Cadet Force provides an organisation based on the concepts of discipline and training within which boys and girls may develop qualities of leadership, responsibility, self-reliance, resourcefulness and endurance.

The training demonstrates why Defence Forces are needed and how they function.

Pre-Service training is undertaken by Year 9 pupils and comprises First-Aid training, Camp and Fieldcraft as well as Map Reading. Many of the skills learnt are useful if pupils wish to take part in the Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme but even if they do not, they are all useful life skills! This training usually continues until early March when the pupils join their chosen CCF section. Participation in the CCF is entirely voluntary.

Some training is common to all three sections. To begin with, all new recruits learn about their uniform, how to conduct themselves as a member of their section, drill. This is all part of Basic Training which then enables recruits to take part in visits to various service establishments. Recruits then work towards gaining their proficiency rating, and then in Year 10, their Advanced Proficiency.

CCF training continues until the end of Year 10. At the start of Year 11 the cadets then have the option of gaining valuable experience as an NCO instructing the junior cadets, training as a weapons instructor or fulfilling an equally important administrative role.

Self-reliance, resourcefulness and endurance

However, the CCF is not just about military training - pupils have the opportunity, especially in summer, to take part in practical leadership exercises outside, where they work as a team, building bridges, crossing shark-infested chasms or rescuing injured pilots! These activities help to broaden their knowledge, self-confidence and leadership skills, and gain many skills that they can use throughout their lives

All said and done, our CCF is great fun and is considered a 'must do' for many students at the College.
