All pupils at Chapter House follow a sports programme designed to stimulate the values of fair play, honesty, determination and application through a wide variety of pursuits in which participation is the key. Sport is a vital part of independent school life for children of all ages and is a natural complement to our academic and cultural life. Soccer, Rugby, and Cricket dominate the boys' games timetable. Netball, Hockey and Rounders are priorities for the girls. The games fields are extensive and include an all-weather play top surface. Competitive fixtures are arranged with IAPS and local schools with a view to giving as many children as possible the chance of playing in different representative sides.

Our marvellous rural surroundings offer excellent opportunities for cross-country, and swimming lessons add to the breadth of sport we offer. Because we share our campus with Queen Ethelburga’s Collegiate we have access to all their sports facilities which extend over many acres. Children thrive on a balanced blend of physical and academic activity; Chapter House is well equipped to provide both, and there is a wide range of options undertaken to develop fitness and sports. Sport is provided for in our large, modern sports hall, which is well equipped for gymnastics and indoor games. The majority of pupils are competent swimmers, working towards life saving and water skills awards in weekly lessons taken in our indoor heated leisure pool. We have invested £100,000 in flood lighting for our sports areas.
