Pastoral care and personal development
A sense of security underpins every child’s Chapter House education. All the staff are well known to them and supervise each day’s activities in a caring, approachable way. There are lots of activities and clubs to occupy pupils, but if they choose to spend play and lunch times in the playground there is plenty to do, supervised by teachers to ensure their well-being. Chapter House’s dining facilities are first class, with a good choice of food in a spacious, beautifully furnished refectory. Special diets are provided where needed. The children are encouraged to spend their time productively, and leisure time is well catered for with plenty of books and stimulating games providing a range of alternatives to outdoor play. The school also offers a crèche facility before and after normal school hours and provides transport for local day pupils in a fleet of modern mini-buses, all fitted with individual seat-belts. A merit system rewards good work and conduct, and we put great emphasis on values such as loyalty, respect, tolerance, friendship and good manners.
Learning Development provision
Some children have a specific learning difficulty such as dyslexia; it is equally clear that many extremely bright pupils may fail to achieve their full potential if such a difficulty is not recognised and dealt with. We have particular expertise in this area, with teaching staff who are well qualified to identify key aspects and help children deal with them. Pupils benefit from the individual attention; therefore those who have any problems in keeping pace with their peers can be quickly spotted and provided with structured help by highly qualified teaching specialists. It is of equal importance to identify boys and girls who are academic high-fliers and to tailor their school programme accordingly, in order that they continue to remain intellectually stimulated.
