Three schools, one aim ~
happy , confident & successful students

On our 100 acre campus there were originally two Independent Schools:
Chapter House Preparatory School ~ for boys and girls 3 years to 11 years, and
Queen Ethelburga’s College ~ for boys and girls 11 years to 20 years.
We have now created and registered a separate third school called: The Collegiate Foundation.

This new Independent School has already begun by offering alternative courses for Years 12 and 13 students to the normal 4 or 5 A-Level subjects route. In time The Collegiate will then expand and encompass Year 10 and 11 students in addition to Year 12 and 13.

Our Charitable Foundation has already begun the building of "The Genesis Centre" which will be the base for The Collegiate Foundation. As this new building comes on line in stages, it will enable The Collegiate Foundation to bring on a much wider and diverse range of courses as alternatives to, and alongside, A-Levels.

The usual requirements for entry into Queen Ethelburga’s College Sixth Form are 6 GCSEs at Grade C or above, with at least 4 at B or above. Students should achieve Grade C or above in English language and Mathematics and Grade B or above in all subjects to be studied at A Level. If you are intending to study a subject at AS Level that you have not studied at GCSE Level, you will be expected to demonstrate your ability in other relevant subjects. If you fail to meet these requirements and there are special circumstances that may have affected your performance, or you have alternative qualifications, your application will be considered on an individual basis.

The entry requirement for The Collegiate Foundation’s Sixth Form is simply that you will benefit and gain from the courses followed. The whole approach is much more flexible and each individual is assessed with regard to their ability, what courses they are interested in and whether they can cope with what will be necessary.

The Sixth Form Course options offered by The Collegiate Foundation will be much more practical in their approach. We will offer a wide range of courses which will enable reasonably successful students to move onto appropriate University Degree courses if this is the direction they want to go. If University is not their intended route then the courses offered by The Collegiate Foundation will be structured to provide practical vocational training useful for a number of worthwhile careers.

Thus there are two different Sixth Form streams - Queen Ethelburga’s College traditional multi A-Level stream and the alternative Collegiate Foundation more vocational stream. Both 6th Forms join together for many activities, meals, assemblies, activities etc., Both 6th Forms dress similarly and a visitor to the campus would be unable to tell which 6th Form stream someone was in.
