 Careers
advice is a time-tabled subject. We have a large range of information
on suitable careers for all the different needs of our College students.
Professionally trained and experienced staff help you choose the best
direction that suits you. Specialist computer programmes, outside advisers
and visiting speakers all make it easier for you to understand what
you may be good at and enjoy as a career.
You
are coming to the end of your GCSE studies.
What are your options?
The
way you study A-Levels has changed due to the Governments post-16 education
policy. From September 2000 all students wanting to embark on a full
A-Level course should normally study 4 AS subjects in their first year.
In year two they then choose which of these to continue with to A2 status
and whether to pursue any further AS. The end award will be allocated
a certain number of points and it is these points which Universities
and Colleges of Higher Education will refer to for entrance. You may
think this is quite a daunting task but it is not as awesome as you
may first think. In the Sixth Form at Queen Ethelburga's you can still
undertake your A-Level coursework alongside looking after your horse
if you have one, and studying BHSAI, or the Leith's Certificate in Food
and Wine. There could also be time for the Young Enterprise Scheme.
Universities will require Key Skills qualifications and we provide these
too.
For pupils
wishing to study mainly vocational courses in the Sixth Form, we have
a second Sixth Form -The Collegiate Sixth Form Faculty. If you think
you may possibly be interested in this please ask our Registrar for
more details.
