Further mathematics
AS - A2 Level

AS Further Mathematics is offered by invitation to those A-level students demonstrating flair for Mathematics. The course consists of a compulsory Pure Mathematics Module which is completed in the Lower Sixth. QCA regulations demand that AS Further Mathematics must contain at least 50% of material examined at A2 level.

The two A2 Applications Modules, one in Statistics and one in Mechanics are studied in the second year.

Topics studied in addition to the general headings applicable to the A-level Mathematics Course include:

Pure Mathematics
Complex Numbers, Polar Coordinates, Matrix Algebra.

Mechanics
Relative Velocity, Frameworks, Momentum, Restitution.

Statistics
Probability, Non-parametric hypothesis testing, Experimental Design,
Paired Tests.

Students will normally be expected to demonstrate a high level of proficiency in the early weeks of the A-level course in order for AS Further Mathematics to be considered.
