A-Level Art &
Design is a two year Sixth Form course open to, and suitable for, anyone
who enjoys art at GCSE level and who now wishes to develop their creative
ability still further in order to reach a higher level of artistic achievement.
The study of Art & Design at A-Level is also essential for all students
who are planning a career in design and it is recognised as the premier
route into higher education.
After completing A-Level many students go on to study Art & Design

The
AQA syllabus is designed to allow maximum freedom in the use of media,
materials and resources so that all students can work to their own particular
strengths and enthusiasms. Students are encouraged to maximise the opportunities
that exist to make use of a rich blend of media and methods, all of
which can lead to a successful and satisfying experience of Art and
Design education.
Whatever stage of development and achievement is reached in Art and
Design, the time-honoured principles and practices are used just as
they were by the most experienced and accomplished artists and designers.
The ability to conceive, research, develop and apply ideas creatively
and with imagination, and the conviction and tenacity to see work through
to a conclusion are essential in Art & Design.
Assessment at AS and A2 Level is very straight forward and is based
on three components of the course:
A) Course work
B) An illustrated written 'Personal Study' on some aspect of Art &
Design History
C) A final controlled test
