During
the first three years of science at QE the National Curriculum
is followed. The three sciences Biology, Chemistry and Physics, are taught
separately but follow the common theme of the importance of science to
advance society and how the understanding of the way things work will
lead to a better future for all forms of life. Pupils have two lessons
of each science per week.
In Biology pupils learn about the workings of the human body, plants and how living things interact with the environment. In Chemistry the components of materials are learnt about. Chemical and physical reactions and their importance to life are studied. In Physics pupils learn about electricity, magnetism, forces, motion, light and sound and their relevance to life. Continuing the environment theme energy resources are looked at and their alternatives considered. The solar system is also studied. Pupils have the opportunity to investigate their ideas and gain understanding of scientific concepts by developing a range of skills. These, practical and written skills will provide a good foundation for them to study science at GCSE and 'A' level. |
