Table with foodThe majority of the work in the first two years is based upon 'Finding out about Food' and 'Skills in Home Economics; Food' and aims to give a lively approach to investigations into Home Economics using a thought provoking and problem solving method of learning. This involves cross-curricular activities with a strong emphasis on mathematics, an important tool when recording the results of investigations. Much of the work on food is based upon the dietary guidelines as suggested by the NACNE and COMA reports to help in the choice of food and ways of cooking it.

In the third year (UIV) there is greater emphasis upon the development of the pupil's technology capability within the Home Economics framework. The pupils are introduced to Design Briefs to provide them with the opportunity to design, plan , make and evaluate products.
