The Art and Design Department course for years III, LIV and UIV follows the National Curriculum programmes of study. These require that pupils are introduced to the main aspects of art and design in which pupils make progress:
Exploring and developing ideas.
Investigating; and making art, craft and designs.
Evaluating and developing work.
Developing knowledge and understanding.

During the course pupils are provided with opportunities to record from first-hand observation, experience and imagination using a range of media. This observational study is used as an aid to the development of ideas as well as for its own sake.

Pupils will also be taught about the visual and tactile elements including colour, texture, pattern line, shape, form and space. Investigating and exploring the possibilities of a range of materials, processes and techniques. They are also introduced to the work of artists, crafts people and designers, and encouraged to relate this knowledge and understanding to their own artwork.
