We recommend the following guidelines for appropriate amounts of pocket money which should be a cheque with your child's name on the back made out to Queen Ethelburga's College and handed in a sealed envelope to your child's house parent on arrival each term at the boarding house. A) Juniors - approximately £75 per term B) Form III to UIV inclusive - approximately £85 per term C) Lower V and Upper V - approximately £110 per term D) Lower VI and Upper VI - approxmately £195 per term
Students are welcome to decorate their rooms with posters - HOWEVER if unsuitable it will be removed. Likewise magazines, books and videos. If common sense would tell a pupil that staff or parents would be embarrassed by the content of a poster, a magazine of the "top shelf" style, or a book or video with strong content, then he or she must not bring it to school. Only videos of the correct age category for the pupil and or friends can be brought to school.
The School/College reserves the right to search any boarding bedroom, locker, safe, bag, car, belongings or the like, or carry out a personal search (using appropriate staff), if is is considered necessary in th einterests of health, safety, discipline, etc, (Note we keep master keys for all lockers etc.) A search may be carried out without the pupil being present.
Children are allowed to bring an inexpensive toy in to school, for example when there is a craze (ie Pokémon cards) the children can play with them at break time, they would not be allowed to have them out during lesson time. No valuable possessions please.
All boarders' normal meals are included within the fees. Chapter House day pupils will be charged £192 per term and QE day pupils will be charged £225 per term for lunches.
Boarding pupils may bring a small pet such as a rabbit, guinea pig, hamster or gerbil, if there is a vacant cage and the school has agreed in writing. A boarder may also keep goldfish in the bedroom. The pet is the responsibility of the pupil who must see to its feeding and care throughout the term, including making suitable arrangements when the pupil is away from school overnight. Due to past bad experiences the school has very strict guidelines concerning pets. Please see form Annex H for the conditions and charges which can occur in relationship to pets. Before ANY pet can be brought to school a parent must complete form Annex H and have received a written confirmation by return from the school of acceptance.
