TERMS,
CONDITIONS & CHARGES RELATING TO PETS BROUGHT TO SCHOOL
Over the years we have had situations of children going into
town at a weekend and buying a rabbit, hamster or gerbil and bringing
it back to school without parents or school being aware.
We have had many instances of a child tiring of owning a pet and
"selling" it on to a friend. In one situation a parent
who did not know their child had "bought" a pet from another
school friend was naturally a little put out to find they then had
a vets bill for £45 when the pet required veterinary treatment.
The school has also found at half terms and end of terms that several
pets are left in their cages with no workable or reliable arrangements
from parents for someone else to care for the pet off campus during
the holidays.
Sadly on occasions some children's enthusiasm for a pet wanes and
the care that the pet then receives is little short of disgusting.
We have had circumstances where a pet had not been neutered and
is then part of the reason why we "suddenly" have 5 more
unwanted and
unexpected baby pets!
From Easter 2001 every pet kept at school will be issued with a
'.Pet Passport". This laminated card will show a photograph
of the pet and the relevant child. In the school office a copy of
the card will be kept with a copy of the completed Form Annex H
and a copy of the schools written agreement to this pet being kept
at school. Any pets found without a pet passport will regrettably
be taken to the RSPCA without further communication to parents or
children.
Any child not looking after their pet responsibly will have the
pet passport removed. Then the parent must remove the pet from school
within 7 days or the school will take the pet to the RSPCA without
further referral to parents/pupil. [This can include - a) leaving
a pet to roam in the pet area and not kept within its cage when
the child is not present, b) leaving bedding and feed allover the
place, c) Pets taken into a boarding house, school, equestrian centre
or any other building other than the designated proper pet area,
for any reason will automatically loose their pet passport.]
Any pet found left at school during holiday periods, including half
term holidays, will AUTOMATICALLY be taken to the RSPCA without
further communication to parents or children. The school does not
allow pets to be left here during holiday periods and for local
people or day children to come onto campus at these times to care
for any pets.
Parents are responsible for all special requirements beyond basic
feed and bedding that is required for the care of their child's
pet including ALL veterinary charges. Only ONE pet is allowed per
child even if sharing the same cage.
If for ANY reason the School or Estate staff have to care for a
pet there will be a charge to parents of £5 per day per animal.
(eg: If a child is ill or suspended)
ALL rabbits MUST be certified neutered by a vet and parents prior
to being accepted at school.
Pets are only accepted onto College premises on the express understanding
that parents and children agree to the above. The College reserves
the right at any time to withdraw permission for a pet to be kept
at school. |
