ANNEX I PERMISSION TO BRING A MOBILE PHONE , COMPUTER , PDA (or the like), ELECTRONIC STORAGE DEVICE TO SCHOOL

Mobile Phones

Note: Junior pupils may not bring a mobile phone / computer or PDA to School

Note: Picture phones are not allowed for any pupil

I request that my son / daughter be allowed to bring and use a mobile phone to College. I and my child agree to the following conditions: Mobile phones are banned from being physically brought into any academic school building at any time, other than for a Day Pupil to deposit their phone in a locker. (This includes classrooms, the refectory, sports facilities, chapel, common rooms, corridors and associated areas). Note the ban does not just mean no usage, it means the phone must not be with a pupil or in their school bag etc at anytime during the school day including break and lunch times, and also during prep times.

Mobile phones must be switched off and may not be used at any time that a pupil is meant to be engaged in, or is attending, a school activity - including those aged pupils allowed to do prep or study within the boarding house. (The carrying of a mobile phone during a riding “hack” is allowed). Boarders below Year 10 must give their mobile phone to the House Parent for safe keeping each night. Mobile phones may not be used anywhere on the campus during the school day including break and lunch times or during any designated prep or study period except from a boarding house bedroom or the Day Pupils’ Centre. Mobile phones must be switched off and may not be used to make or receive calls after the pupils official lights out time and before 7 am. This requirement operates 7 days a week which therefore includes weekends too.

Computers / PDA’s or the like / Electronic Storage Devices

Permission is required to bring onto campus computers, laptops and any other device which is
(a) capable of either communicating with the internet and / or other equipment / devices / systems,
(b) capable of storing text or images.

Parents are responsible for ensuring any such equipment is insured. We cannot be responsible for any loss or damage howsoever caused. Parents must ensure such equipment has adequate software safeguards wherever possible, to prevent access to, or storage of, offensive or unacceptable content. Pupils who bring onto campus, or who disseminate in any way, such electronically stored content, or access such content whilst on campus, or who illicitly, or without permission, connect to systems, networks, or the web, or who fail to adhere to the rules concerning such usage; will have their equipment confiscated, will be barred from bringing same ever onto campus in the future, and risk suspension or expulsion. Pupils who think being involved with offensive or unacceptable content, or connecting, or attempting to connect to, campus networks or systems is funny, harmless or “no big deal” will find we take this seriously and will react accordingly. In order for the College to agree that such equipment may be brought onto Campus premises parents and pupils must agree that the College reserves the right to “search” through any stored text or images if it suspects unacceptable content or usage.

P arents and pupils agree and accept that, if any of the above conditions are not adhered to, the phone / computer / PDA or the like, will be confiscated and permission will be withdrawn for that pupil to have this at school. These conditions relate to both day and boarding pupils. If a pupil “lends” such equipment / devices to a friend who breaks one of the rules above , then this will still mean that the “owner” of the equipment is liable to the same sanctions as if they had used the equipment themselves.
