Mathematics is a basic requirement of the core element of the National Curriculum. In Years LV and UV students follow the National Curriculum and work towards the Edexcel GCSE examination. The main areas of study followed throughout the course come under the headings:
Number and algebra.
CalculaterShape, space and measure.
Handling data.
Throughout the course the aim will be to develop an understanding of mathematics and its applications.

There are three levels of GCSE in Mathematics, targeted at the award of the following grades:
Level Grade
Foundation D E F G
Intermediate B C D E
Higher A* A B C
Students are entered for the level best suited to their ability in Mathematics and are "setted" to allow them to work towards that level in order to gain their best results. Edexcel 1385
