This
option is available to those students who are already studying the language.
French is one of the major European languages and is very useful
even to those who discontinue the language after GCSE. Others can, however,
move on to A level French or take up business French in the Sixth form.
The department is well resourced having satellite TV, a language library,
foreign videos and language
laboratory.
We are also fortunate to have our very own French language assistant who
takes the students individually or in small groups to prepare them for
their oral examination.
The French trip takes place once every two years, but for those students wishing to go to France at other times we can arrange stays with host families or language courses. Students are tested in the four skill areas of listening, reading, writing (in the form of coursework) and speaking. Although our style is very much communicative, in the target language, we also study grammar in depth in order to enable our students to achieve success at the higher grades of GCSE. Extra help sessions are always available for those who join us late or simply for those who love the language. Students in the languages department work hard but have fun! Come and see for yourself.AQA 1211 |
